Guidelines

Thank you for considering the Braly Family Foundation as a potential partner for your work!

We fund scholarships, educational institutions, teachers, and nonprofits supporting or providing educational programs in the St. Vrain Valley, Colorado and Stillwater County, Montana. Grant applications must be classified as a public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and have a current determination letter from the IRS.

The foundation will not consider funding for items outside of our focus area and mission of education from cradle to career. The foundation is only allowed to fund organizations that qualify as a 501(c)(3) non-profits under the IRS tax rule and regulations.

Grant Considerations begins with a conversation and, if invited, a detailed application. Please review our full process, including timelines, history and guiding principles before contacting us.

One: Preparation and relationship building

One - three months

New grant seekers should contact the foundation by email at pyper@cobralyff.org to set up a time to meet in-person or over video conference before submitting an application. During this initial conversation, we will evaluate the potential fit of your organization and request with the foundation’s priorities. Please review our full process HERE, history and guiding principles HERE before contacting us.

After this meeting we will inform you via email if your organization is invited to submit an application.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and approved twice a year. The deadline to be considered for summer approval is June 1. The deadline to be considered for fall approval is September 1.(Starting 2025) A soft opening will start us in October 2024.

If you are invited to submit an application, we will offer to assist in scoping your grant request. The email will also include the application form and instructions, including a reminder of our deadlines. We will send electronic confirmation of application receipt within one week and request any missing or additional information needed within one month.

Notification  by November 1 when submitted for fall decision.

Applicants will be contacted by phone or email regarding the decision of the Board of Directors.

The confirmation email for grant recipients will include the terms of the grant and reporting details. It will be followed by check payment within 45 days.

At the end of the grant term, a final report will be due one month after the close of the fiscal year in which grant funds were expended.   An in-person meeting will also be a communication option to fulfill this requirement.

For keystone grant commitments being paid out over multiple years, annual updates will be expected.

Four: Relationship Maintenance

Maintaining a mutually supportive relationship with shared responsibility requires we stay in touch! We ask for a phone, video, or in-person conversation at least once in the grant year and encourage you to share organizational communications with us throughout the year.

We will typically fund grantees for up to three years (but never more than five) and then require a one to two year break before considering follow-on funding.

We also hope grantees will stay in touch after our active grant relationship has closed. We love to hear your updates and consider your organization for follow-on funding after a one to two-year break.
